Blind Begger Railing & Gate

Blind Begger Railing & Gate is the Blind Beggar pub in Whitechapel, London. The owner's brief was that he wanted something unique that was decorative, drew the eye, but at the same time said private space don't climb into the garden.

Each organic gold spike at the top of each 'tree' is identical. Although it would be fun to make each spike unique it is far more cost effective for the client to make multiples of the same item but then attach at different heights and angles to make it interesting.

The gate is key access from the outside but thumb turn on the inside for ease of exit for the public from the beer garden.

The gate infill is based on the old leather Chesterfield sofa in the pub which the landlord loved. When seen on the inside, you can see the concaves with buttons in the centre mimicking the chesterfield and then it is textured and patinated to reflect the old leather of the sofa.

The gold stems with the polished silver balls on the top are bolted to the brickwork through those large balls. Those balls are in effect the heads of bolts.

There are LED lights in each stem that bounce light off the bottom of each ball (it was nice they built the Cross Rail building behind to match the colours)
