de La Cuona

Architect - Waldo Works

de La Cuona for high end interior fabrics, accessories and bespoke work. The architects Waldo Works had drawings showing design intent for the Pimlico Mayfair store which we then developed with them both, using CAD drawings and actual sample pieces. They had limited experience working with metal so it was our job to suggest what was practical and suitable. The forged detail where the vertical 16mm bar is opened up to take the 12mm dia horizontals is our suggestion which the client loved and we have since produced various items for the shop using that detail as one of the ways to tie things together. (Further works not shown here)

The handrail of 75mm x 25mm curved steel looks great bus also means it does not need any structural infill to take a 3kNm lateral load. The architects were very keen to keep it as open as possible below the handrail and just to rely on the taut steel wire as the infill. The original sketch from the architects had the handrail as 30mm diameter tube which shows how things can change in development.

Our SE also supplied calcs to the landlord's SE to show loadings on the building of our suspending some shelves from existing ceiling beams.

Location - Pimlico, Mayfair, London.
